Our practice offers academic coaching for college students, working together with the student to define his/her learning style and identify barriers to academic success. Together, we will develop strategies to overcome these barriers within a supportive relationship. Some reasons students seek academic coaching include:
Time management issues
Organization difficulties
Test anxiety
Memorization strategies
Study skills
Reading and note taking skills
Preparation for tests
Personal and academic goal setting
Motivation
Stress reduction
Many students have the ability to be successful in college but have difficulty applying their strengths to the college environment. Academic coaching is particularly helpful for students with disabilities, including specific learning disabilities, traumatic brain injuries and ADHD. Often students who received a great deal of academic support prior to higher education feel overwhelmed by the new tasks at hand and lack of structure in the college environment. As a licensed clinical psychologist and certified school psychologist, Dr. Fleischman has a background in learning differences and can work with students to develop new skills to be successful academically.
